  It's a hermetic text (Neo-Platonism, like Pseudo-Dionysius & Plotinus.) If you're interested in Neo-Platonism try the Enneads, it's heady stuff though; I wouldn't have read it if it wasn't for college. Try Symposium & Phaedrus. So much gnostic thought is built on this work.
